Residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (1.0 FTE)

Job description

The successful candidate will join our discipline of anaesthesia, which comprises divisions within the Department of Companion Animals and the Department of Equine Sciences. The discipline currently consists of 3 ECVAA diplomates, 1 board eligible anaesthetist, 1 senior clinical anaesthetist and several dedicated anaesthesia technicians and interns. Together, we annually provide clinical anaesthesia and analgesia for approximately 3,100 companion animals and 630 horses for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.

The major tasks of the appointee will consist of clinical duties and associated teaching (bachelor and master level students, interns). The successful applicant is expected to participate in an out-of-hours rota. The faculty offers an ECVAA approved residency training programme with a duration of three years, with the intention to enable the candidate to sit the ECVAA examination in the following year.

The offered programme is designed to provide both the necessary practical training and theoretical learning environment to enable the candidate to qualify for participation in the ECVAA board examinations upon completion of the residency programme.

To gain experience in ruminant and exotic animal anaesthesia at other ECVAA or ACVAA approved training centres, the candidate will be enabled to follow two weeks of externships abroad in both the second and third year of the residency.

Qualifications

You are a veterinarian with an EU-recognized diploma and have undergone 1 - 1,5 years of relevant pre-residency training, preferably rotating through various clinical disciplines, although an anaesthesia-only internship will also be acceptable (with preference for experience across species). Non-clinical internships or the same amount of time spent in clinical practice will be allowable only after scrutiny by the ECVAA and only if evidence of an adequate clinical component can be provided.

We are looking for a highly motivated, conscientious candidate with excellent communication skills, who enjoys working in a team and shares our objectives of providing the highest quality of patient care. The ideal candidate is not only keen to enhance his/her own knowledge of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia but is also dedicated to contribute to the continuous scientific progress within this field and within our faculty.

Offer

We offer a temporary full-time position for one year, starting date September 1st 2017, with continuation of the programme for a successive two years’ period upon satisfactory performance. Depending on the outcome of re-evaluation of performance at the end of the programme, the contract can be extended with another 16 months to allow for participation in the ECVAA examination.
