Full Professor of Veterinary Immunology (1.0 FTE)


Functie

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites candidates to apply for the position of Full Professor of Veterinary Immunology. This fulltime, tenured position oversees all functional and operational activities of the Division of Immunology within the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology (I&I).


We are particularly seeking individuals studying Mucosal Immunology, however, all areas of Veterinary Immunology including, but not limited to Clinical Infectiology, Virology, Infection Biology, and Molecular Host Defence will be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and leadership. In addition to leading an internationally recognized research team, the candidate is expected to contribute to the ongoing innovation of the division's strong graduate educational programme through mentorship and teaching. She/he will manage a diverse team of senior and junior scientists, PhD candidates and technicians.

 

This Department comprises the Divisions of Virology, Infection Biology, Immunology, Molecular Host Defence, and Clinical Infectiology. Immunology is a pillar of the university-wide One Health research programme, which has a special focus on Mucosal Immunology. It also contributes to Utrecht Life Sciences, a joint venture between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Science and the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU). This highly collaborative environment offers cutting-edge multidisciplinary research with outstanding facilities including expertise on organoids and other complex cell systems, pathology, advanced imaging, single cell analysis, proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and pathology.


Profiel

Successful candidates will ideally meet the following requirements:

  • a PhD degree in the field of (Veterinary) Biomedicine;
  • affinity with Veterinary Immunology;
  • an excellent background and track record in Mucosal Immunology research;
  • a successful track record in obtaining external funding (EU, national funding agencies, government, commercial partners);
  • preferably a senior teaching qualification or equivalent;
  • proven management experience;
  • team player;
  • good oral and written communication skills;
  • experience with knowledge dissemination and societal outreach;
  • ability to sustain and grow an innovative academic research programme.

Aanbod

We offer a full-time permanent position. The salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges from €5,582 and  €8,127 gross per month for a full-time employment (scale H2 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities). Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end allowance of 8.3% per year.
