3-4 skilled senior associate professors/research leaders are sought for appointment at a new research centre at VIA University College within the fields of profession-oriented higher education, practice and evaluation.
The appointed researchers will be responsible for contributing to the creation and development of a research environment as well as to VIA’s practice-based knowledge production. In recent years, both the quantity and quality of VIA’s research, development and innovation activities have risen.
We wish to intensify this development for the benefit of the entire sector and for the professions for which we educate.
The Research Centre for Quality of Education, Profession Policy and Practice is an interdisciplinary centre offering new knowledge and support to the profession-oriented educational programmes as well as to the professionals themselves. The centre is recruiting senior associate professors/research leaders for four research programmes:
According to current legislation, university colleges must offer and develop higher education and conduct practice-related, application-oriented research and development activities that actively contribute to the provision and application of new knowledge in both the public and private sectors (Act No. 152, 27/02/2018). Thus, considerable demands and expectations prevail for the key role of the university colleges regarding societal growth, welfare and sustainability.
The Programme for Profession Policy investigates characteristics and contingencies as well as institutional and political framework conditions related to the tasks of providing professional educational programmes alongside profession-oriented research and development. The research focus of the programme includes the following themes: the history, resource allocation and methods and activities of the profession-oriented higher education and research institutions; the societal impact and effect of their activities as well as the characterisation and quality assessment of profession-oriented research activities.
The research and development activities of the programme must provide new knowledge for the relevant professions, inform the development of the professional educational programmes and qualify decision-making processes in order to improve the sector’s ability to solve its complex tasks.
Working closely with practice is an immanent part of being a profession-oriented higher education and research institution; law prescribes it, and our employees attach great value to the practice relation. However, there seems to be no clear conception of where precisely practice should be applied, how it is to be identified nor distinguished from other constructed notions such as theory, (applied) knowledge, profession, occupation and education. Problems like these are central for the Programme for Practice where focus is on the implications of being practice-orientated for our research and education activities in order to provide the most informed basis for quality enhancement of our practice relations across our multiple educational programmes and professions.
Quality of Education
With a context-sensitive approach, the research programme for Quality of Education focuses on what characterises good quality of education, on the mapping of how quality of education is construed and practised and on furthering the understanding of how to enhance education quality.
The research programme has a special focus on developing new knowledge on profession-oriented higher education and on how to support the quality of our profession-oriented educational programmes for the benefit of societal development.
Evaluation and evidence
The research programme for Evaluation and Evidence aims to strengthen the basis of professionals’ work with knowledge and aspires to encompass both narrow, traditional conceptions of evidence as well as a range of other valid sources of knowledge in accordance with the practical experiences, reflections and observations of the relevant professionals. The programme will deliver methodological research in support of the methodical and analytical toolbox of VIA’s employees engaged in research and development activities.
Through research-based evaluation activities, the programme will also contribute to the development of new knowledge across disciplines and help strengthen the knowledge base of the respective professions.
For the position in the Programme for Evaluation and Evidence, it is expected that you will contribute to research on evaluation as well as to VIA’s evaluation activities by strengthening the quality, methodical development and research basis of VIA’s multi-faceted analysis and evaluation activities.
Please state in your application which of the research programmes you are interested in. All positions require solid and broad methodological skills as well as excellent communication skills in both Danish and English. You are expected to independently develop new knowledge, lead research projects and contribute to the development and maintenance of an inclusive research environment. Senior associate professors/research leaders are, to varying degrees, also expected to contribute to teaching activities on VIA’s professional bachelor degree programmes, further education programmes or on internal skill development courses.
Particular emphasis is placed on your ability to communicate your research to relevant audiences for societal impact. The knowledge produced at VIA forms the backbone for the professions for which we educate and should, at the same time, contribute to informing and qualifying political decision-making. Based on your knowledge creation, you are also expected to develop academic, peer-reviewed articles at an international level in relevant research journals.
As a senior associate professor/research leader, you contribute to realising VIA’s strategy of societal impact. Your knowledge production is thereby expected to contribute to the development of individual educational programmes, the skill development of VIA’s employees and to our shared knowledge base – locally, nationally and internationally. Therefore, you will also be expected to contribute to research-based analyses and evaluation activities for public authorities, civil society organisations and private sector actors with the aim of strengthening the knowledge base and qualifying decision-making in, with and on professional practice.
Salary and employment
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with prevailing collective agreements and legislation.
Employment in a senior associate professor position is limited to six years with the possibility for extension. Senior associate professor positions have no regulated maximum working hours.
Employment as a senior associate professor presupposes a positive assessment by an external assessment panel, established in relation to the hiring process.
