Course: Engage your students

Student centered learning at UCPH Engage your students At the University of Copenhagen, student learning is at the center. Student-centered learning (SCL) is about providing students with different opportunities to participate and have influence on their learning process. In particular, SCL concerns students' ability to reflect and act independently - during their studies as well as in their subsequent profession - and it is about making students active co-creators of their own learning processes. As part of UCPH's joint plan for pedagogical competence development, the University's learning units jointly offer a number of courses for experienced teachers, where you can learn more about what student-centered learning is and, more importantly, how to organize and implement your teaching to increase students' active participation both inside and outside the classroom. The common denominator of the courses is that they offer concrete tools that can be implemented in the teaching situation.
You must complete the entire course to receive a course certificate. Coffee, breakfast and a sandwich to go will be provided on both days Participants The course is aimed at experienced teachers at UCPH who will be teaching in the autumn of 2024 and who would like to activate their students - especially in large classes where it is often more difficult to interact and engage with the students, but activation is certainly also relevant in smaller classes so the course is open to both. Teachers can participate alone, but there may be an advantage in signing up several colleagues from the same course/education. Objectives During the course, we aim for the participants to achieve the following: Discuss research-based knowledge about student engagement and pedagogical methods for creating interaction in a teaching session. Discuss specific examples of how teachers can make students’ understanding (and misunderstandings) of the content of the teaching visible through digital tools such as student response systems. Experiment with different methods for activating students in their own teaching. Share knowledge and experiences about classroom teaching with colleagues from other academic fields. Course format The course is planned as a seminar with presentations, discussions and analysis of challenges followed by your own trial course supported by guidance and sparring in groups. The course concludes with a half-day seminar where experiences are shared. We also work on documenting the experiences in the participants' teaching portfolios. The course is held in English unless all participants speak Danish.
